I’ve been writing this blog for around a decade now, and over the years the site and my writing have taken various forms. My goal has been to keep the space open and fresh with my improvisational observations, but I can’t say its always been very successful. Previous iterations of ArteDeTimo.com have focused on everything from politics to sports, and creative play to critique, but mainly the site has been a showcase of all the little oddities I’ve dreamed up. It has been a place to show the “stuff” that fell between my work and my daily life.
Earning an MFA fine tuned who am as an artist, and just as important, it gave me experience participating in a greater art discourse. Its one thing to practice art, but it is something more to be able to articulate that practice within a set of cultural ideas and beliefs. Articulating a site within an artistic discourse is a skill separate from practicing and making, and it is something I have found rewarding.
So, I have super charged my blog with the skills I honed in grad school. This space is where I generate a discourse around my life tinkering and maker-isms. I’ve been enamored with writing all along, but this version of my blog promises to be the best blend of intellectual harmonics and impassioned vocalization yet!
I once thought I would make part of my living writing this blog, but I found that capitalistic pursuits burdened my expressive ability. I now run the site free of commercial interests. The above logo links to a website that expresses the idea well, so I won’t belabor the point here.
Finally, my blog is designed to engage readers. I articulate ideas and feelings on mostly hidden and slightly important projects in my life to spur connections and realizations about life in general. I hope that each reader relates to my inquisitive musings, even if in part, and responds by posing his or her own questions about the often overlooked, in-between parts of life.
Register and post some questions. You might just enjoy it.
